NEWSLETTER – March 2008

I hope you’ll find this newsletter useful. Please do let us have your comments and suggestions on it and any other Club matter. Your new committee will listen to you.  CLUB DEVELOPMENT

 The new Committee is considering the short and long term future of the Club and its requirements.

While it is the Committee’s understanding that the LTA is keen to promote a merger between our club and South Shore Tennis Club, your Committee will only pursue that route if it is the wish of the members. Should it be the wish of both Clubs to merge, it would be expected to take many years to plan and put into effect. No merger is at all imminent. The Committee will keep members informed and will also be discussing these matters with the LTA and England Squash as appropriate.

SQUASH EVENTS

• Junior Club Night Friday, Mini Squash   6.20 p.m. – 7 pm  (5 – 8yrs)   Over 8yrs  7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

• Junior Coaching (over 9), Saturday  12.45.p.m – 1.45 pm  All standards welcome at these sessions

• Club Handicap Tournament  t.b.a. for Sept

 NEW MEMBERS/FAMILY GROUPS

 To put newer members and family groups in contact with each, we are organising  3 sessions of both squash and tennis during the season. However, if you would like to widen your circle of playing partners, do come along. The bar will be open and there will be refreshments.

• Friday May 2^nd         from 7 pm.

• Saturday June 7^th         2 pm – 5 pm.

• Sunday July 13^th           2 pm – 5 pm.

 OPEN WEEKEND

 This is part of a planned recruitment drive when we shall invite members of the public to come down to the club to see the facilities on offer and try out our tennis and squash courts. If any member would like to volunteer as a host for a couple of hours, Orelle on Tel. 01253 711050 would be delighted to hear from you!

TENNIS TOURNAMENTS 

• Monday Aug 11^th – Sunday Aug 31^st                       Club Open Tournament

• Monday Sept 1^st – Sunday Sept 21^st                         Veterans & Handicap Tournament

If wet, finals to be played the following weekend.

• Friday Sept 5^th – Saturday/Sunday Sept 27^th/28th    Club Junior Tournament

• Road to Wimbledon Tournament    Winning Boy & Girl  U 14  from the Club to go to next stage

TENNIS TEAMS entered for Summer 2008

• 2 Men’s Teams in the National League County Division

• 6 Men’s Teams in the Fylde League

• 3 Ladies’ Teams in the Fylde League

• 2 Boys’ and 2 Girls’ Teams in the Fylde League

• 1 team in the Fylde Inter Club Knock Out

TENNIS TEAM PRACTICES

• Men’s practices on Wednesdays, starting March 19^th

• Ladies’ practices on Thursdays, starting March 20th

TENNIS CLUB NIGHT

 This will start on Tuesday April 1^st and will be held each following Tuesday, starting at 6.30 pm.

These will be organised sessions, run by a club member.

 TENNIS INTERNAL LEAGUE

This will be a Singles League for Juniors, Men and Ladies of all abilities.

 TENNIS COACHING

WERNE WEEK    SATURDAY  AUGUST 2^ND – SATURDAY AUG 9^TH

Each alternate year for the past 25+ years a group of members from the Blau Weiss Tennis Club in our German twin town of Werne has visited us and we have visited Werne every other year. This year it is our turn to entertain members from the Werne club and the Werne week always proves to be the liveliest week of the year. Our programme will include a variety of activities and here are two advance dates for your diary:

• Saturday August 2^nd  Summer Buffet and Disco  All members welcome

• Sunday August 3^rd  Round Robin Tournament for Werne guests and all St Annes members

 The party consists of all age groups from Junior to Veteran and we do hope St. Annes  members will join in the activities of the week. More to follow. Naturally we are always keen to hear from anyone who can offer hospitality to any of our German guests, but even if you cannot do that, it would not preclude you from joining the party to Werne in the future. We are not an exclusive group and would welcome as many members as possible joining the stalwarts on their trips to Werne…always a fantastic week.
