Squash
We have 3 Squash courts, 2 standard with viewing gallery and
this is our glass backed court with seating for around 70 spectators.
Welcome everyone to the Squash section of our revamped website.
Although this might be a smallish start to Squash news and updates, we are hoping that with your help we can make it more and more interesting for everyone involved with the club and potential new members.
Over the next few months the Squash committee will be looking at ways to give Squash members more value for their money from sponsored competitions and prizes in the internal winter leagues to free(ish) team Squash shirts and much more.
Starting at the top, we are currently holding the club Squash Tournament to find the best player in the club, along with the best lady player and best junior ....oh and for the oldies the best over 45 year old (next year we might even introduce an over 55 competition for the really oldies). The finals will be held on 15th March and everyone is welcome, but be warned tickets will be limited and at a mere £3.00 including food get in early or miss out!!
On April 24th the men's team night out will be held, venue to be arranged and the ladies are already booked to go away for a "girlie" weekend at the end of March!
We are currently running 3 men's teams and a ladies team, but unfortunately it looks like the ladies league may not exist next season so we are looking to incorporate those ladies that are interested into the men's teams, then run 4 or even 5 men's teams.
In the summer we will be entering 1 team into the summer Squash league but to keep the interest going throughout the closed season we will run a couple of competitions and also intend to introduce racket ball as an additional sport. Equipment will hopefully soon be available to borrow from Bruce's shop so everyone can try it out. You will then be able to order equipment directly from Bruce should you decide to take it up! By September/October, if we have enough people interested we will start a racket ball mini league!
Without getting too far ahead there will be a handicap tournament at the beginning/middle of September to get everyone going for the new season.
Next seasons winter league will be bigger and better than ever with more exclusive prizes and when the website can be adapted to take the software we will be introducing online internal leagues where you can post your results, see who you are playing that month and where you stand in the overall scheme of things. We will also look at the possibility of online court booking to give everyone a fair chance of booking popular time slots.
As a committee, we are keen to hear any suggestions or ideas from any of the members so if anyone would like to contact us please send an e-mail to thesquashclub@yahoo.co.uk and we will do what we can to accommodate your ideas.
One more thing, we hope to hold an open meeting in early September so that everyone can get to see and meet the committee and talk over anything involving the Squash section (I will even try to convince the general committee that it is worth a free pint for all those that attend so I would expect a full house!!!)
As more information becomes available, it will be posted on these pages
